Felix gets $3.8M for 2009
by Jon ~ January 19th, 2009
According to Jayson Stark, the Seattle Mariners and Felix Hernandez avoided arbitration and agreed on a $3.8M deal for 2009.
I think he would have gotten $4-5M had he won arbitration.
EDIT: As Libriarian mentioned in the comments, this doesn’t mean there will be no extension. JAC in a Prospect Insider comments thread:
I was just told via email that the two sides are negotiating a multi year deal and expect to do so throughout spring training to get something done, but that they needed to make sure Felix had a deal he was happy with for 2009.
Good news.

No arbitration hearing. Great first step!!
Now the M’s and Felix can take their time and work on a long term contract.

As you say Ernier, this is a good first step. Churchill is reporting (via comment #32 on the Felix extension article) that he’s been “told via email that the two sides are negotiating a multi year deal.”
I’ll be hoping that we can lock him up for many years, even if that raises the $/year.
