Spring Training Non-Roster Invitees

Spring Training is right around the corner, and the Seattle Mariners have released their first batch of non-roster invitees, courtesy of John Hickey.

Pitchers:
Eric Hull
Chris Jakubauskas
Shawn Kelley
Luis Munoz
Chris Seddon
Denny Stark
Tracy Thorpe
Sean White

Catchers:
Jaime Burke
Adam Moore
Luis Oliveros

Infielders:
Callix Crabbe
Oswaldo Navarro
Chris Shelton
Chris Woodward

Outfielders:
Freddy Guzman
Prentice Redman

Hull, Seddon, Crabbe, Shelton, Woodward and Guzman were all signed to minor league contract this offseason.

No big surprises here.  At this point, I would guess that Hull, Kelley, Burke, Crabbe and Shelton have the best chance at making the team out of Spring Training, but they’d definitely have to earn it.  Stark figures to get attention as this season’s potential “feel good” Spring Training story.  Redman, 29, put up some decent numbers last season and could be a darkhorse candidate for LF/4th outfielder.  Last season I saw him hit an absolute moonshot past left field in Portland.

Snubs?  I’m surprised to see that Phillippe Aumont didn’t get an invite.  I was looking forward to seeing him and how his mechanics have progressed.  I expected Mike Saunders to receive one as well.  Of course, more invites could come in later on.

With these non-roster invitees, Seattle will have 28 pitchers competing for 11-12 spots.

Saunders I agree should’ve gotten an invite maybe Carp as well… I’m still rooting for Mangini at 3rd could Tui go to 2B in the event that he loses his 3b job and Lopez and BEltre somehow go away?

Carp is on the 40 man, so he’ll be in camp.

Oh so everybody on the 40 man goes to camp didn’t know that… Baldwin? Hubbard? Moore? DIaz? Those are the first names that pop into my mind right now that should be given a legit chance.

Well, Moore did indeed get an invite. Diaz is no longer a Mariner. Baldwin and Hubbard wouldn’t stand much of a chance given the circumstances.

Man I’m on a death spiral today first my other computer gets a deadly virus and now I’m posting horribly man… As for Saunders not getting an invite he did have surgery but that shouldn’t had made him not get an invite seeing as Endy is our starting LFer this season…
