The Hermida Trade Talks

A little over a month ago there was some talk that the Seattle Mariners were interested in Florida Marlins OF Jeremy Hermida. The reports were all over the place, but we knew that the Marlins were looking for catching depth. Naturally, most people assumed a straight up swap was being discussed, with either Rob Johnson or Adam Moore heading to Florida.
Jason A. Churchill of Prospect Insider has gathered some new info on those talks through a Marlins scout:
Marlins asked for something like:
2B Jose Lopez, LHSP Ryan Rowland-Smith, RHSP Juan Ramirez, and C Adam Moore for OF Jeremy Hermida and 2B Chris Coghlan.
Mariners countered with something like:
2B Jose Lopez, 3B Matt Tuiasosopo/2B Luis Valbuena, C Rob Johnson and LHP Cesar Jimenez for OF Jeremy Hermida and 2B Chris Coghlan.
Looking at these proposed deals, I would have been absolutely irate if Seattle dealt the first package for Hermida and Coghlan. Hermida’s a decent player who would help Seattle, and Coghlan is a good prospect with awesome plate discipline, but Seattle would be losing a TON! Losing Ramirez and Moore alone in such a deal would absolutely break my heart, and they’re only half the equation.
Thankfully, there is no need to get worked up about it because GM Jack Zduriencik and company obviously wanted no part of it and countered with a much more palatable package. JAC says the Marlins walked away because Seattle wouldn’t give up Moore, plain and simple.
Which is great, because I strongly believe Moore is Seattle’s starting catcher of the future.
