The Mariners have finalized their trade for 1B Casey Kotchman from the Boston Red Sox. In return, the Mariners give up Bill Hall, a minor league PTNBL, and cash. Boston sources have been reporting that Boston is saving money on the trade and that the cash being sent from Seattle is in the $7.5 million range. Hall is making $8.4 million this year, but $7.15 million of his salary this year has already been given to Seattle by Milwaukee. That money plus change is being flipped back to Boston to complete this deal. Kotchman is due to make somewhere between $3-4 million in arbitration this winter.
