BBT Fantasy Baseball 2009

by ~ February 10th, 2009 at 1:47 pm

Last year we decided to do a fantasy baseball league associated with BBT despite having a very limited community at the time.  It was still a success as we managed to get 16 teams, most of which stayed active all season. Grey of Razzball.com took first place, with Rob T. the runner up and yours truly snagging the bronze.

Time to recruit once again.  Like last season it will be held on Yahoo!, will have a deep pool of teams, and no money will be involved.  I’ll be taking over as commish this year, though, and plan on simplifying the stat categories a bit.  5x5s are a bit boring for me, but the 10×9 we used last year was a little over the top.

The primarily league is going to be a head to head (H2H), but if we get enough people for two leagues we’ll also do a Roto.

Roster alignments, stat categories, number of transactions etc. haven’t been determined yet, but feel free to make suggestions in this thread (including suggestions as to what prizes could be).

If you’re interested in playing and can commit to keeping your team up to date and competitive all season (even if you fall out of contention), post a comment saying so.  Anyone who finished in the top 10 of last year’s league has a spot guaranteed if they want it, but they should leave a comment claiming their spot anyway.

If you’ve never played before and are curious, don’t be shy!  It’s very simple.  Last season we had two rookies (me included) and we finished 3rd and 4th out of 16 teams.  You just have to be able to set aside a little bit of time to keep your roster up to date and you’ll be fine.

Stake your claim!

Update: Great turnout so far!  We’re going to have more than enough people to do two leagues, one H2H and one Roto, but keep signing up for now!  If you haven’t already, please let me know what your preference is.  If you don’t care, let me know so I can get the people who do care into the league of their choice.

I’ve sent invites out to a few people already: Mariners121212 (Roto), elkboy3 (Roto), Dustin Shires (Both), Brandon (H2H), bill99350 (H2H), Mariners711 (H2H), bumkus (H2H), navychief2004 (H2H), Slurve (H2H), GTownHoyas (Roto), Rob T. (Both), and Ianyo (H2H).  I will hold off the rest of the invitations until people let me know what league they want to be in.  If anyone listed above received an invite but wants to be in the other league, disregard it and let me know.

Thanks!

  • Mariners121212

Count me in. As long as there is no money involved I will play, and I always check my teams.

  • elkboy3

I’d like to play. I’ve been following your blog for a few months now and always am looking for new and better leagues (although I prefer Roto to H2H, but have played H2H too).

  • http://bleedingblueandteal.com Dustin Shires

    Count me in!

  • Brandon

I’m in. i finished in the top 10 last year (I believe my team name was ‘Thunderstruck’ or something). I promise to be competitive and stay up to date.
    Thanks Jon!

  • bill99350

Im in, I have never played before but it sounds pretty fun!

  • Mariners121212

I agree, in my opinion roto is better than H2H.

  • http://bleedingblueandteal.com Jon Shields

Well the post has only been up for a little bit and we’ve already got 7 spots filled up, so I would say we could end up with enough people to have one h2h league and one roto. If there isn’t quite enough I’m sure there are people that would like to play in both (me included).

So, that’s an option. I’ll add that to the post.

  • bumkus

Put me down for a spot in the league. Thanks!

  • navychief2004

Jon, count me in! I know I let ya down with my articles, but I think I can be active enough for a fantasy team!! :-)

  • navychief2004

How about a year subscription to JAC’s notes for a prize? lol

  • Slugoben

I would love to do it! Slugoben@gmail.com

  • Slurve

How do i start? Never played fantasy baseball before.

  • Slugoben

By the way I will check my team everyday. I am on baseball websites probably too much. Go to Bleacherreport.com for my bio and check my rankings.
    Thanks

  • GTownHoyas

I’m willing to play. I’m commited to my teams all the way, and also I am pretty good at it. Roto all the way though; much more fun than H2H. CameronSeib@gmail.com if there is room or you want more of a claim from me.

  • Steve Pool

If there is room left, I want in on the H2H league. Thanks!

  • Thunderstruck

I’m in if there is any room. I dont think I finished in the top 10 last year but im not sure.

  • Slurve

I want in but somebody has got to help me get in the right direction on how to start…

  • seasun62

    Jon,
Count me in. My son has been bugging me to play fantasy baseball. We can run it together.

  • http://bleedingblueandteal.com Jon Shields

Slurve – Don’t worry about it buddy. We’ll get you in a league and you’ll have all the info and advice you need. You don’t need to know anything just yet.

We’re just seeing how many people want in right now. Yahoo hasn’t even opened up their 2009 leagues yet as far as I know. Sit tight, and when we get this all set up we’ll make sure you know what you’re doing.

  • Mr.Benton

I’d like to be part of either one. I have never played in either but am willing to try. I am always up to date, I did ok on CBS sportsline last year. Thanks.

  • Adam The Lord

I’d absolutely love to play, if there’s a spot open for me.

  • http://bleedingblueandteal.com Jon Shields

Mariners711 talked to me on AIM at 2:15 saying he’s having trouble commenting, so he’s got a spot.

(Just posting this for my own benefit to keep organized)

  • Slurve

So do I have to sign a contract in blood saying I will update daily and be on daily cause I’d love to play in the BBT division.

  • MSwitters

looks like there have been alot of entry requests. However, if there is still room, I’d love to play. I’ve been a regular visitor of the site for a while now and haven’t contributed and posted yet. I’m always looking for better fantasy baseball leagues and would certainly stay active for the whole year. Let me know if there’s room. Gracias.

  • http://bleedingblueandteal.com Jon Shields

Still plenty of room if we’re doing two leagues– Keep ‘em coming!

  • GTownHoyas

How many people to a league?

  • mariners29

    ill play

  • http://bleedingblueandteal.com Jon Shields

@ GTown – depends on how many we get, obviously. Right now we have 20 people total, but it’s still early and I know there are others that will want in when they see this.

These aren’t going to be small leagues, which is a good thing in my opinion. Makes finding those hidden gems a little more important.

  • Mariners121212

Are you going to do a live draft?

  • mundeazy

if you still got room im in for a h2h

  • Slurve

Well is it an AL only type thingy or NL or mixed or whatever they call it…

  • GTownHoyas

For prizes I think autos, game used stuff, and tickets are the best ideas. They are simple and everyone likes that kind of stuff.

  • http://bleedingblueandteal.com Jon Shields

    Mariners121212 – preferably, but we’ll see.

    Slurve – mixed

  • Ianyo

    Count me in.

I prefer H2H, but will do whatever has room.

  • HighBrie

If there’s room, I’m committed. Count me in.

  • Base_on_Balls

I’d be a Rookie, but I’m definitely down to PLAY!!!

  • http://bleedingblueandteal.com Jon Shields

I’m starting to send out the first batches of invitations so you can sign into the leagues. If you specified H2H or Roto in your comment then I’ll keep you to that league, otherwise I’ll be distributing people around. If you have a preference let me know.

Also, don’t worry about the current rules and settings to the leagues.. I haven’t really taken time to set them yet.

For anyone signing up from here on out, chances are you’ll be placed in the Roto league… just so you know.

  • navychief2004

Jon, I prefer H2H. Thanks brother!

  • Slurve

    I changed my email… will.i.amz.nguyen@gmail.com

  • navychief2004

    Nevermind…lol…just checked my email!

  • Brian

I’m in if I can still get a spot. I played last year and did pretty well.

Been a while since I’ve been to the site. Been busy with a new job. Keep up the good work Jon.

  • RussM

Long time reader, first time poster! I registered just to get in on the H2H or Roto action. Add me to the list if you can!

  • wolfe2484

I would love to join a roto league with my fellow Mariner fans if you still have room.

  • teeman

    Jon….

I’m interested in ROTO if there is a space available.

  • MSwitters

    Jon,

I’d like to be in the H2H league if room is still available.

  • sparky

huge baseball fan and the M’s are my team I’m currently in two keeper leagues that are very competitive and I’ve finished in the top 7 last year and have a huge compiment to finishing the season strong despite injury or ineffectiveness. Im new to the forum , and love it , but not new to fantasy baseball. H2H is the way I play and yahoo is my site so if you looking for a dedicated competitive manager I’m your man, let me know.

  • Slurve

IS there any difference between roto and H2h?

  • tallbaseball

I’m in if there are any spots left, I am not sure of the difference, so it makes no difference to me as to which league type.

  • The Kid

I would LOVE to be in the roto league, please let me know if there are spots left. Dedicated, competitive, knowledgeable, WINNER, all words that describe me so let me know if I make the cut.

  • seasun62

    HTH is our preference here

  • benez813

I would like to join if there are spots left. Thanks!

  • mrprez16

Let me know if there are any more spots open

  • http://bleedingblueandteal.com Jon Shields

Alright, I’m shuffling names around and right now I have 18 managers in the H2H league and 16 in the Roto league, which seem like good numbers to end with.

Thanks everyone for the quick response, I didn’t expect it. Last year we had to practically beg people to play– I guess that shows how nicely this little community has grown.

If you still would like to play and haven’t signed up yet, go ahead and put your name in and if someone backs out you can still get in on the action. Or, if we manage to get another dozen players or so we can have a 3rd league (afterall we filled up 2 leagues in just a few hours).

  • mikey

Count me in if there are any spots open.

  • Project Monkey

If I can, I would like a H2H spot…either if someone drops or for a 3rd league. I am always very active in FBB.

  • apples

If a spot opens up I would like in.

  • WENATCHEEDUDE

I too would love to play………..
    Thanks.

    Andy

  • jamesaustin

I’ve just registered on this site, though I’ve been reading the posts here for a few months. I’ve also never played fantasy baseball, but wanted to for some time. Is it too late to register? If not, I’d love to have a spot.

  • jamesaustin

Also– I suppose this should be said–I can confidently commit to checking staying engaged fantasy league on a daily basis.
