Bedard: I Love Seattle

by ~ February 26th, 2009 at 12:20 am

Erik Bedard did a rare interview with KJR that can be heard here.  It’s a great listen and definitely worth the time, so check it out.  It’s amazing how much more likeable he comes across in his own words compared to the way the disgruntled media tends to paint him after they fail to extract a useable quote from him postgame.

    The Wingman. I like it.

Thanks for this – I have a reader who is a rabid Bedard fan…is there a link for KJR specifically? I’ve heard it thrown around a lot, but haven’t had the chance to listen or check anything out. Is it a radio station?

this goes to show we can’t believe everything the media says. Some guys are jerks in the medias mind because they won’t give them a good quote to put in the paper. I for one don’t think erik bedard is obligated to give them anything.

I would like to see Bedard win 15+ this year and he can. His revelations about his injury situation, make me feel optimistic. Even if he just becomes trade-bait, I want the M’s to get maximum in return for him.

I think Seattle gets more value by extending Bedard than by trading him at this point.

^^ I agree extending Bedard would be a sound investment, if he does well and you have him under contract for more than just this season, ship him off. Rebuild his value, by getting some extra years on his contract.

Or– and I know this might seem like a CRAZY idea– Seattle could attempt to extend him while the market and his personal value is down, then… wait for it… KEEP him!

    ;)

I’m all for keeping Bedard. When healthy he’s one of the top ten pitchers in baseball.

  • Mr.Benton

Thaw what I’m saying extend while he doesn’t have much value.

  • Luisam911

If Seattle makes a run this year, they should extend him.

^I’m not sure I see the connection.

  • Luisam911

We have to keep the 1 2 punch if we are some how good this year and having a winning team, will maybe want him to stay here. Unless we have a new dominant pitcher coming in 2010, we lose a lot in our rotation.

Okay, but are you saying that if they don’t make a run in 2009 they shouldn’t extend him? I mean, why wouldn’t you want that same dominant 1-2 punch even if they didn’t contend this season?

I don’t see the connection between winning and extending him. What’s wrong with losing and extending him?

  • Luisam911

He might want to be on a winning team and the test the market? I think I am not sure what I said. Though actually he might want to stay because I watched a video on the Mariners bounce this year and the GM for the Orioles said Bedard didn’t like being the spotlight and wanted to be in that unknwon state. So maybe here its a good fit because its not like New York or Boston here. Even listening to this I don’t clearly know if he wants to be here or not. He might have just said, but who knows maybe I am wrong and he loves it here.

Sure, but him wanting to leave and Seattle trying to extend him are two different things. I get what you’re saying though.
