Another Reason to Root for Mike Sweeney

…to make the team in 2009.

He absolutely destroyed Jeff Weaver back in 2001!

Unfortunately, Weaver’s career continued and he wound up serving almost 150 innings of BP with the Mariners in 2007, but Sweeney’s efforts are still much appreciated.

Hat tip to this guy.  I had completely forgotten about this little scuffle.

Looks like the nicest guy in Baseball has a dark side.
It’s always the innocent looking guy who’s the killer…

Sweeney claims Weaver made a profane comment about his faith, or something like that.

    And he heard him? LOL
Whatever happened to turning other cheeks and whatnot? Looks like Sweeney wanted to start a one-man Inquisition…

Well you can see in the video Weaver turning and saying something in the direction of the box.

This had followed a couple of pitches of them bantering back and forth about the placement of the rosin bag. Weaver had placed it on top of the mound where it was distracting, Sweeney had asked Weaver and the umpire to move it. The umpire asked him to move it, Weaver wouldn’t, then he said something, and Sweeney went bizzerk.

Sounds like nothing, but nothing good happens when the pitcher and batter talk. Even something simple can get things started.. I remember Omar Vizquel saying that the glare from Arthur Rhodes’ diamond ear studs were distracting him. Omar complained to the ump, then Rhodes and Omar started exchanging words, next thing we know the benches are clearing (if I remember correctly), though no punches were thrown.

Actually, Rhodes’ wiki entry mentions this:

In 2001, Rhodes was pitching against the Cleveland Indians when Indians shortstop Omar Vizquel said that Rhodes’ glowing diamond earrings were distracting him from seeing the ball. This incited an argument between both teams that led to Rhodes’ ejection from the game. Since then, players have not been allowed to wear distracting jewelry on the field.

I don’t know where I’m going with this.. just rambling as usual. The moral of the story is this:

It was JEFF WEAVER. He deserved it BECAUSE he is Jeff Weaver.

The reason I attacked JEff Weaver was because he’s a douche bag and I request the MLB remove distracting douche bags from the game and anybody named Jeff Weaver.
