Aumont Today

by Jon ~ March 3rd, 2009

Seattle’s top pitching prospect Phillippe Aumont is playing for Team Canada in the WBC, and pitched an inning today in an exhibition against the Toronto Blue Jays.

1 IP, 1 H, 1 BB, 1 K

He still needs some work on his mechanics, but we’ll talk about that in more detail later.  Here’s a janky video rip of him striking out Adam Loewen looking.  The pitch is hanging a bit, but it has enough movement to buckle Loewen’s knees.

Video after the jump.

I’ll try to find some better video later.

I don’t know much about pitching mechanics but….

Is his arm deceleration the problem?

    So…his one K was…to a pitcher.

    Not a great sign.

@ tang: From the little I do know it seems to be a problem, yes, which is connected to other problems.

Pro Ball USA did a decent writeup a while back:

With a little followup about deceleration here:

Well technically Loewen is an outfielder now.

Even given that…I’m not too thrilled about striking out a non-pro hitter. :)

Halman hit third and got a Home Run yesterday against the Pirates.

Who cares if Loewen is a converted pitcher-turned-hitter. You think when somebody struck out Rick Ankiel they said to themselves, “Damn, he’s a former pitcher…” No.

Aumont has nasty stuff. If/when he gets his mechanical flaws straightened out, he’s going to be a monster… That hook is disgusting.

Aumont one day will throw sexy slurves and I happen to love them.
