Predicted Roster, 3/29
by Jon ~ March 29th, 2009
After all of the big developments today, this is what I think the roster will look like come Opening Day.
Starting Rotation:
Felix Hernandez, R
Erik Bedard, L
Jarrod Washburn, L
Carlos Silva, R
Ryan Rowland-Smith, L
Bullpen:
CL: Brandon Morrow, R
SU: David Aardsma, R
SU: Roy Corcoran, R
MR: Mark Lowe, R
MR: Shawn Kelley, R
MR: Jose Lugo, L
LR: Miguel Batista, R
(Lowe, Corcy and Aardsma are pretty interchangeable)
Catchers:
Kenji Johjima
Rob Johnson
Infielders:
Adrian Beltre, 3B
Yuniesky Betancourt, SS
Russell Branyan, CIF
Ronny Cedeno, MIF
Jose Lopez, 2B
Mike Sweeney, 1B
Outfielders:
Wladimir Balentien
Endy Chavez
Ken Griffey
Franklin Gutierrez
Ichiro Suzuki
And there you have it. I wonder if another big move is coming. Something has to happen with Mike Morse and Reegie Corona.

Yeah, that looks about right, finally.
What a weird weekend it’s been…

yeah it has been, but what i don’t get is how the m’s current management is catching the heat for morrows decision. if anything bavasi should be catching all of the heat. morrow feels more comfortable in the pen for whatever reason… it’s time to deal with it and move on. all the whining in the world won’t change it.

That is definitely Bavasi’s problem. He drafted Morrow and stuck him in the pen. I think Morrow would be injury plagued as a starter, so probably smart move on his part to move to the pen, but it does hurt that Z signed Fields…another closer. That’s my one criticism of his decisions thus far in his tenure here.

In hindsight signing Fields looks really really bad. But I think it just shows that the management truly wanted and expected Morrow to be a starter, so I guess their hearts (or heads, rather) were in the right place.
The catcher situation irks me more than the Morrow thing, but hopefully it will be resolved soon.

I agree that Morrow would be a great injury concern I’m not all that mad at seeing him in the bullpen where he was lights out. And I’m glad that I don’t have to deal with all the innings limits and pitch limits.

Obviously, I would rather have Morrow in the starting rotation but at least this gives them a closer that we know is good. Although it does make signing Fields look really stupid.

@ seatown – amen to that. I’ve been seeing more people complaining about Bavasi today, but it’s useless to whine about it. It is what it is, and we need to work with it and go.

Sheffield was released by the tigers, so there is hope we may release Batista!
