Rumors Out of Taiwan

(hat tip to Mariners Minors):
- The Mariners are interested in 2B Ping-Chieh Chen, Taiwan’s fastest prep talent. He’s regarded as one of the top prospects coming out of Taiwan, but despite his speed his lateral range at second base is a problem. The Phillies, Cubs, Tigers and Twins are also pursuing Chen.
- Seattle is also taking a look at RHP Yao-Lin Wang, who throws a high-80s fastball to go along with an average slider. The Cubs and Rays are also interested.

I did some reading on that Ping-Chieh Chen kid. Apparently, he doubles as a shortstop, but like Jon said, the lateral range is a problem, which basically limits him to a 2nd baseman who, supposedly, has a weak arm.
But, the kid is supposed to be a wiz with the bat, contact wise. He has a good eye for the strike zone, and will put up good OBP’s, and high contact rates with almost no power.
I could deal with that…
