Roto – Saturday, March 28th at 10:30 AM PDT

Amusingly enough, the Mariners made my case better than I ever could with their 10 walk outburst. A modest prediction…the Mariners bullpen will be among the league leaders this year in both walks and Ks.

I wasn’t calling people out for applauding another spaghetti move with potential. I love that Z is making these kinds of grabs. I was calling out the comment about the Mariners’ bullpen not having problems. What we have right now is a high risk, low stoploss, high upside bullpen. Which means it could very well be among the best…or among the worst bullpens in baseball. It’s way too early to start talking about this bullpen like it doesn’t have problems.

There is not one soul in the entire bullpen who has good control, for example. Walker (aptly named), Aardsma, Rowland-Smith, Corcoran, Lowe…they all can’t hit the broad side of a barn from 20 paces…let alone 60.5. THey all have great stuff too. And a lot of potential to boot. But this could just as easily be the 1998 bullpen as the 2007 bullpen.

When last we saw Chad Cordero, he was throwing at an eye-popping, awe-inspiring 79 mph on his fastball.

Let’s wait to see that velocity get back over 80 before we lay claim to his having breakout potential.

Another nice move by Jack Z with low risk and possible high reward. A minor league deal, so no spot on the 40 man roster and no real down side if Cordero doesn’t fully recover from surgery.

This bullpen has a crazy upside with Lowe, Walker, Aardy, Cordero being potential breakout candidates and with Fields coming up who says we have bullpen trouble?
