I think Jimerson is a good option to add to the 40-man. It’s good to have a guy on there that you can drop later without much loss, but still can fill a need on the team.

At some point they’ll need to add a true outfielder to the team. Not having one eliminates the very reason for Cairo being on the team. Cairo was supposed to be the all-purpose backup for Willie in the infield so Bloomie could be used as a pinch runner. Now Bloomquist is the primary backup to almost every position. You can’t use Willie as liberally in the running game if he also must cover every other position. It’s not liked they’ve actually needed Cairo 1/8th into the season anyways.

I’d probably call up Reed in place of Cairo.

Good call, jp, I forgot about that. And the reason why Wlad had that extra option year was because of a fairly recent rule change.

I’m not sure why you think Wlad was placed on the 40 man too soon. If he wasn’t protected on the 40-man he would have been subject to the Rule 5 draft and likely been out of the system 4 years ago. His being signed at such a young age is the reason he is still a bit raw despite being out of options. The M’s were fortunate enough to get a 4th option year on Wlad, though I can’t seem to recall the reason why.

Don’t be surprised to see this same situation with Triunfel as well.

You only get so many years in the minors before needing to be protected on the 40 man roster.
