This trade would be worse than the Bedard trade (I know it's early but I'm already willing to say we got HOSED on that deal). There is very little chance of this ever happening but if it did I'd give up all hope for Bavasi (and I've been one of his biggest defenders over the past couple of seasons). Crisp is a one year wonder who might not be any better than Wilkerson and unless that "some pitching" includes Buchholz this trade wouldn't be worth it. Crisp and Buchholz and another pitching prospect may be worth Clement.

I see no logic in this trade. As jp17 said we have good options already in the organization to fill Wilkerson's spot.

Yeah, cool. I just wanted to hear some rationale. Olney and Neyer are usually the only ESPNers I pay attention to, so I went to ESPN to read Olney's 'speculation.' I thought maybe he was simply reporting what he heard, but, as it turns out, he was actually saying this is a good move for the Mariners. That's some zebrashizz right there.

Trading Reed for Crisp would be crazy, let alone Clement.

If the M's wanted to replace Wilkerson they have in house options that don't require a trade and the incoming contract. Reed could provide similar defense as Crisp. Balentien could provide some power, but with less defense.

Clement is among our most valuable prospects, you don't trade those for what amounts to a 4th outfielder on most teams, especially when in house candidates give you most of his production.

Olney is way off the mark on this, unless Beckett is the "some pitching."

1.) Because Seattle desperately needs some pop (especially left handed) in the middle of the order. Coco Crisp doesn't provide that, Jeff Clement can immediatly step in at DH and be an upgrade over Jose Vidro in the 5th or 6th spot, even as a rookie.
2.) Why would you ever trade a recent #3 overall pick for Coco Crisp? And it's not like Clement is a flop either, he is absolutely mashing in AAA. Sure, Clement was the number three pick because he was a catcher, but that doesn't mean he can't be a big time contributer for Seattle. Crisp is garbage and would make the team better defensively and that's about it.
3.) Seattle should be able to get a hell of a lot more for a left-handed hitting catcher with great power. There is a reason the Red Sox haven't traded Crisp yet, most likely because they're asking too much.

Maybe I'm overvaluing Clement, but you certainly wouldn't trade anyone else in that draft class for Crisp (Tulowitski, Braun and a ton more). Clement would be contributing in the bigs like those other big names from that class if it weren't for his position. His bat has been ready for quite a while.

What's crazy? What do you need with Clement? Why don't you want Coco? Just curious, not saying you're right or wrong.
