Series Thread: M’s at Yankees 5/2-5/4
by Jon Shields ~ May 2nd, 2008 at 12:23 am
5/2 (04:05 pm PST) – Erik Bedard vs. Chien-Ming Wang
5/3 (10:05 am PST) – Felix Hernandez vs. Mike Mussina
5/4 (10:05 am PST) – Carlos Silva vs. Darrell Rasner
Seattle’s best starters prepare to right the ship at the historic Yankee Stadium after a very disappointing series in Cleveland.
Even with Bedard on the hill, Seattle’s chances are not looking up in game one, as the Mariners our Wang’s favorite team to face. In six career starts against Seattle Wang is 6-0 with a 2.51 ERA.
M’s to watch:
5/2 – Erik Bedard (4-3 with a 3.58 ERA over 55.1 IP against New York), Richie Sexson (.308 career against Wang)
5/3 – Against Mussina: Raul Ibanez (.435/.480/.783 in 25 PA), Ichiro (.375 with 1 homer in 32 PA)
5/4 – Carlos Silva (7.59 ERA in 21.1 career innings against the Yankees). Against Rasner: Kenji Johjima (2/5 with 1 homer), Richie Sexson (2/4 with 1 double, 1 walk), Ichiro (2/5 with 1 double)
Mariner Killer Prediction:
Robinson Cano- This may be the series that Cano starts to turn it around. Cano is hitting .429 with 3 HR and 6 RBI in 14 career at bats against Hernandez and Silva. He is hitting .293 in 21 career games against Seattle. Also keep an eye on Jason Giambi, who is also struggling right now, and Derek Jeter.
