If I was Ackley’s coach I wouldn’t have tried him at 2nd just because it could hurt his draft status. Seriously, CF command a much higher status in the draft then 2nd basemen. 2nd basemen are usually SS that have lost their range due to physical growth or whatever.

I imagine the same reason why he wasn’t used in the OF. Not being able to throw tends to limit possibilities on the diamond. That’s one possibility. Another is that maybe they didn’t need him there. I’m not privy to the UNC roster but maybe they had a good second baseman in place.

Ackley’s coach is probably the guy with the most info on him. If he says he would be a great second baseman, I would definitely consider it if I’m Zduriencik.

I gotta agree with Rob’s question. If he sees the potential for Ackley at 2nd, why hasn’t he tried it himself?

Anyone read that Peter Gammons article the other day. Says Ackley’s coach is lobbying for him to be moved to 2B.
