A Few Moves

Ian Snell → AAA Tacoma
Jack Wilson → 25-man roster
Matt Tuiasosopo → AAA Tacoma
Michael Pineda → AAA Tacoma

Hope everyone had a happy Father’s Day.  The super quick analysis of these moves:

  • I thought Snell might be claimed on waivers by some team gambling on his perceived upside, but apparently no team is willing to take on the remainder of his contract.  It’ll be interesting to see how he performs with the Rainiers considering what he did in his AAA stint last season.
  • It’ll be nice to have Wilson back at shortstop.  Love that defense.
  • It’s about time Pineda landed in AAA.  It was clear he had nothing left to learn in AA.  Hopefully AAA hitters will force him to use his changeup and slider more frequently than he was in AA.

    Jon what would you guess Pineda time table to reaching the major leagues is assuming he has no setbacks in AAA? Also glad to see Tui going back to AAA clearly does little to help the current Mariners roster. Ethier of the Wilsons on the bench helps with roster flexiability.

      At this point it’s just a matter of when the team wants to give him a shot.

        So it would be safe to say he would be coming to spring training with a chance to make the club.

          Definitely. And he has to be added to the 40-man this offseason anyway so he’s not Rule 5 eligible.

    The next couple of weeks could be interesting. If they keep pruning and planting we may end up with a major league team.
