Great Game, M’s Lose 10-11

by ~ July 29th, 2008 at 8:21 pm

What a ballgame.  Mariners come back from a 7 run deficit to lead Texas 10-9 going into the bottom of the 9th.  Too bad J.J. Putz still isn’t the J.J. Putz we had last year and blew the save.  I guess Brandon Morrow won’t be starting this season after all.

Well, Johjima was injured, so maybe something positive came out of it.  (Ugh, may karma strike me down right now for saying that.)

Anyone see the post-game show? I’ve never seen Ichiro so animated.

The Mariners play and manage to compete…not win.
    This is sad.

^This loss was on Putz. Simple as that. No blame on anyone else, really.

What about Ichiro? Was it a meltdown or something?

    ^more like happy/excited about the 3000 hits.

When you play, you play your best, and what’s been working.

9th inning, save situation = Brandon Morrow

^I agree typically, but Putz had been almost back to ‘normal’ lately. They’ve already said that if Putz can handle it Morrow will be moved to AAA to start for the remainder of the season, so you have to give Putz a shot at it so that you can look toward the future. And Morrow pitched the night before, if I remember correctly.

  • Brandon

I think rigs made the right choice here. Morrow pitched the night before and I don’t know if you know this, but the m’s are out of the playoff race. Might as well try to preserve a promising arm instead of pitching him in that situation. Also, like jon said, we want putz to take the spot over so morrow can get stretched out.

Hopefully Putz doesn’t pull a Bedard and blame it on some random nagging injury.

Morrow pitched the night before? Who gives a crap. There are closers that go 3 nights in a row for saves. Games like the one yesterday are the ones that hurt the most to lose. Go out and give your team its’ best shot at winning.

Brandon – Are you questioning my knowledge of the season? “I don’t know if you know this, but the M’s are out of the playoff race.”
^I’m we’ll aware that we are done. It’s pretty freaking obvious. But, like I have stated above, games like yesterdays are the ones that hurt the most. Salvage what you can of this season, put your best team out there; that would be Morrow, not Putz, closing games.^

Dustin – one, I don’t think Brandon was questioning your knowledge of the season.. it was more like sarcasm. But what confuses me is that you were fighting for Morrow to become a starter ASAP just a few posts ago. So, which is it? You want Morrow to close or to start?

  • Brandon

Yeah..that was definitely sarcasm. I shoulda thought about the context and who i was talking to before i wrote that so sorry if i offended you.

I was just trying to get the point across that since the season is done, we might as well try and prep for next year. Sure, that game really hurt to lose, but at least we can take a bit of solace in the fact it brings us one step closer to strasburg…

Jon show me where I was fighting for Morrow to become a starter, because you should know my opinion on the subject… You know I oppose that switch.

^Yeah we were just talking about. I must have been thinking about someone else.
