Phillies Holding Carrasco

Recently I wrote that the if Erik Bedard was to be traded to the Philadelphia Phillies, the Mariners would probably be targeting top pitching prospect Carlos Carrasco.  Since then I have heard other things of similar nature.

ESPN’s Jayson Stark is reporting, however, that the Phillies wouldn’t include Carrasco in a potential deal for CC Sabbathia, so that definately rules out the possibility of Seattle getting him for Bedard, who the Phils are already “wary” of.

Sabbathia’s haul was weaker than expected, and the package the A’s got in return for Rich Harden and Chad Gaudin was good but not great, so the possibility of Seattle getting anything decent in return for Bedard is slim at best.  With Bedard currently on the DL and his value decreasing by the day, Seattle may be wise to hold onto him until the offseason.

That could also be unlikely, since most of us have the impression that he wants out of Seattle.  The Mariners cut Richie Sexson because manager Jim Riggleman was sick of his attitude in regards to being a  part-time player, not because of his play (supposedly), so if Bedard starts acting snotty and continues to appear on radio in other teams’ cities, then maybe they’ll feel forced to pull the trigger.

Or.. that could be digging a little too deep.  We’ll see…

Jon,did you get a chance to look at Andy Tracy of the Phil’s AAA team? very impressive stats for a 1st baseman and we just let go ours(thank goodness) Maybe him and a couple Relievers (AAA) for Bedard? or maybe I’m just way off hehe …but I sure like that Tracey guys stats

dave: unfortunately, Tracy is 34 years old, so he’s not the type of player Seattle should be pursuing.

besides, Seattle just drafted a great first baseman whom I will be profiling in the near future. His predicted ETA is 2 years.
