Elias Rankings Update

The updated Elias rankings have been released once again as the first “half” comes to a close. At the time of the last update Erik Bedard and Adrian Beltre were Type Bs on the cusp of Type A status, while Jarrod Washburn and Russell Branyan were on the bubble as far as Type B status goes.
It’s only been a few weeks since the last update, but here’s where our guys stand.
Branyan has fallen about 3.5 points and now has 21 players to surpass if he wants to become a Type B. It may not matter anyway. I see Branyan re-signing with Seattle in the offseason.
Beltre has drop less than one point and is still on the cusp of qualifying as a Type A, but he’ll be out for most if not all of the year and won’t be moving up. I think he has a decent chance at retaining Type B status even with the missed time, but that’s no guarantee.
Erik Bedard has dropped a point or so but is still within shouting distance of Type A and solidly a Type B. Type A is going to be tough as he’ll have to leap frog some stiff competition.
Washburn has added almost 4 points to his total and now just has Jose Contreras, Dallas Braden and Brian Bannister standing in the way of Type B status.

I swear, baseball gets more and more difficult to follow as I get older… but I like it. Still, between advanced metrics, free agency rules, supplemental drafts and collective bargaining agreements I’d say the national pastime loses a lot of casual fans that can’t keep up with all of that stuff.

Did I read right on your twitter that Gillies was THREE DECIMAL FOUR seconds to first base??
Dude…Ichiro in his prime was 3.6 seconds…3.4 second is speed comparable to the young Rickey Henderson…forget about Ichiro…that’s absolutely BLAZING speed. That kind of speed would allow him to steal bases in bunches even if he weren’t a particularly smart baserunner.
