AL LVP

The Replacement Level Yankees Weblog put together a stat backed list of the American League’s least valuable players.  Seattle Mariners players are up and down the list.  I’m shocked!

1.) Miguel Batista
3.) Carlos Silva
4.) Richie Sexson
8.) Jose Vidro
10.) Eric O’Flaherty
14.) Wlad Balentien
24.) Kenji Johjima
28.) Mark Lowe
48.) Miguel Cairo

While a lot of us might disagree on the exact order of these players, there’s no hiding the fact that none of these guys have carried their weight.  To see the complete list and what the rankings were based on just follow the above link.

Also, how in the hell is Wladimir Balentien on this list? Last year in his call up his first career hit was a double off the Yankees, in his only at bat in the game. Did they think that this would spark a 2008 season in which he would win Rookie of the Year, MVP, and win the democratic nomination?

That is absurd that a lowlife Yankee fan would put a prospect on that list, when he had a grand total of 3 at bats under his belt in 2007.

Chill for a second. The ranking was based on a set criteria:

pBRAR: Position-adusted batting runs above replacement using linear weights
dRSAA: Defensive runs saved above average using zone rating
pRSAR: Pitching runs saved above replacement

TR: Total runs (pBRAR + dRSAA + pRSAR)

Sure, there are a lot of undeserving players on the list from all teams, but it was based on those metrics. There wasn’t anything worked in for the amount of playing time, lineup impact or the rookie learning curve.

It’s not like this was a serious post.

First off, Wlad on this list makes no sense at all. Sample size sample size sample size.

I don’t know how Potatoes is way up there either, just another example of how this doesn’t compute.

Batista is also somehow worse than Richie?

    Mark Lowe?

    What, no Yuni?
