Brandon Morrow, Starting Pitching
by Jon ~ September 5th, 2008
Brandon Morrow, Seattle’s first round draft choice from 2006, is making the first start of his career against the New York Yankees at Safeco Field right now.
While few were predicting a great outing from him (3 perfect innings thusfar), it’s my impression that many are viewing this as the start of a new era in Mariners baseball, and it makes sense. Morrow’s bullpen presence was a direct result of Seattle’s desire to be competitive now. Morrow’s new role as starting pitcher could be seen as symbolic of the organization’s new plan to take a step back, undo as many mistakes as possible, make a couple sacrifices and try to do things correctly and efficiently from here on out. We’ll see if they can, but here’s to hoping!
Continuing with the looking forward theme, local boy Matt Tuiasosopo is also getting his first major league start of his career, giving Adrian Beltre a rest at third base.
