We Make Bad Walkers Look Good

Dave Neihaus made a point to say that Juan Rivera is a tough man to walk after Ryan Rowland-Smith lost him for his 15th free pass in 258 plate appearances this year.

He’s walked in 5.8% of his plate appearances this season, and while that’s not a good rate by any standards, it is sadly better than five Seattle Mariners this season with a minimum of 95 plate appearances.

Jeremy Reed – 5.2%
Jaime Burke – 5.1%
Kenji Johjima – 4.1%
Jose Lopez – 4.0%
Yuniesky Betancourt – 2.5%

It’s unfortunate…

For comparison, there are guys in this league in the 16-18% range.
