Rigglemen New Nationals Bench Coach
by Rob T. ~ October 24th, 2008
Cross Jim Rigglemen off the list as being a potential manager of the Mariners next year. Rigglemen has signed on to be the Nationals bench coach. Jack Z obviously has already told Rigglemen he is not interested in him for manager. During the press conference Jack Z hinted that he didn’t want a 1st time manager but wanted a person who has had managerial experience. The clear early favorite to be manager has to be Ned Yost who was fired by the Brewers with only 12 games to go in the season. Jack Z mentioned how he and Yost have a good relationship with each other. Ned Yost has also said he would be interested in the Mariners job, “Definitely, most definitely,” Yost said in an interview on Thursday. “The opportunity to work with Jack again is really, really appealing.”

The point has been made that Yost wouldn’t be a serious candidate because Zduriencik was part of the front office that fired him, but Z seemed pretty happy with Yost during the press conference overall. Besides, I got the impression the ownership fired Yost.

Yost’s firing was stricly the duty of owner Mark Anastasio . Doug Melvin did not want to fire him and was extremely angry at Anastasio for forcing him to do it.

I know their are some who are sad to see him go…I wish I could say the same, but it wouldn’t be true. I am happy Riggels is no longer a Mariner.

I did enjoy Riggs’ handling of the clubhouse problems. Total hardass.
