Agree with you all the way on this one Jon, 10 for 2. Don’t see the Ms getting outbid and he’s worth it as the best picker at his position.

Guess I just don’t see who out there is liable to offer more. The FA market is in the tank and teams just aren’t throwing the money at aging veterans that they used to be.

Any team willing to offer more would have to meet three criteria,
1) Have a need a shortstop
2) Have the money to throw around for a FA sort-term fix
3) Values defense to the point where they’d even see a all-glove no hit SS as the answer

Both NY teams are out, as is both LA teams, I could maybe see Boston, but I think they are gonna make Hardy priority #1.

Jack’s option will certainly be declined, so that $8.4 mil number has no relevance when looking at what kind of extension he might get. That’s basically saying Jack would only sign a two year extension for more guaranteed money than the one year day he would NEVER get.

As a FA Jack is prob looking at a one year year deal at what? $3 mil? Adam Everett, or Jack Wilson lite, got a 1/$1, and Cesar Izturis got 2/$5. I really don’t see how anyone offers him more than 2/$8, but I’d imagine something in the 2/$6 range gets it done.

You’ve got it right Jon. Something like that. Wouldn’t surpries me if it is a bit less than you suggest and some incentives clauses are thrown in.

He’ll never return to the 4+ WAR he was in ‘04 but he should get back to the 2.5 range that he was in ‘05 and ‘07. But he has been injury prone the last two years….thus the incentives for games played, etc.

I’m not going to lie when I saw Sanchez got 2 years and 12 million I cringed at the thought of Jack Wilson getting the same deal. It would be far from the end of the world(or signing Carlos Silva for that matter) but 2 years 8-10 million would be much more appealing to everyone but Jack Wilson of course
