Rumors: Morrow, DeRosa, DH, Lackey

A few stray tidbits from the day:

  • There were some rumors going around based on miscalculations that Brandon Morrow was eligible for arbitration as a Super Two.  Luckily, that turned out to be a false alarm.  The Mariners have five other players eligible for arbitration in Felix Hernandez, Franklin Gutierrez, David Aardsma, Mark Lowe and Ryan Langerhans.
  • Jon Heyman tweets that the Mariners are among the teams checking in on free agent Mark DeRosa.  File this under “we’re kicking the tires on everyone.”  Most of DeRosa’s power is to left-center, he’s not a good defender, he wasn’t particularly good last season and he’s 35 years old.  No thanks.
  • Bob Nightengale tweets that GM Jack Zduriencik says the Mariners’ signing of Ken Griffey doesn’t mean they won’t be looking to sign another DH.  This was implied, but it’s good to know for certain.

I’ll tack on whatever else trickles in this evening…

  • Heyman tweets that the Mariners have their eye on John Lackey, but “won’t go to $100M.”  I don’t think Lackey gets $100M anyway.
