BA’s Top-10 Mariners Prospects

We all love using Baseball America’s prospect lists as reference points, but their latest Seattle Mariners top-10 is a little.. off.
1. Greg Halman, of 2. Michael Saunders, of 3. Phillipe Aumont, rhp 4. Carlos Triunfel, ss/2b 5. Juan Ramirez, rhp 6. Adam Moore, c 7. Mario Martinez, 3b 8. Jharmidy DeJesus, 3b 9. Dennis Raben, of
10. Michael Pineda, rhp
All of these guys would be considered top-15 Mariners prospects on any list, but the order is hard to figure out. They seem to be inconsistent in balancing upside, risk and proximity to the major leagues.
The top half of this list could be fixed, in my opinion, if Halman and Triunfel were simply swapped. As for the bottom half, Martinez and DeJesus are miles away from the majors, and while they have excellent upside, I think Luis Valbuena and Matt Tuiasosopo are deserving of a top-10 mention. On my list I have DeJesus at 11 and Martinez at 12.
USS Mariner’s Dave Cameron posted his thoughts on this earlier this morning (being on the east coast has its benefits). We feel about the same, though I would expect most Mariner fans to agree.
You can view my top positional prospects here.
If I had to factor in pitchers, I might have a top ten list that looks like this:
1. Carlos Triunfel, SS/2B
2. Michael Saunders, OF
3. Phillippe Aumont, RHSP
4. Greg Halman, CF
5. Juan Ramirez, RHSP
6. Adam Moore, C
7. Matt Tuiasosopo, 3B
8. Michael Pineda, RHSP
9. Luis Valbuena, 2B
10. Dennis Raben, 1B/OF
