I think they said they’d be happy keeping him, but that won’t stop other teams from calling. If the Rockies can get a premium for him they should do it. Atkins is SOO overrated. He’ll regret the day he leaves the Rockies and Coors Field.

It gives Seattle a bit more leverage with the Twins, but that’s about it. They seem to be down to Beltre and Garrett Atkins.

I just saw on MLB.com that the Dodgers re-signed Casey Blake does that make Beltre more valuable in a trade?

Yeah I’m not sure how much they would either but with Schierholtz right behind him in LF and basically nobody at 3B I would think they wouldn’t be reluctant to deal him.

I think if we can get Gomez+ young pitcher or Span+mid-level prospect for Beltre then I’ll be extremely happy.

Let me clarify what I was saying about LaPorta.

IF the Indians really needed Beltre, I could imagine something like a straight up LaPorta/Beltre deal. But they don’t really need him. The Indians were at the bottom of this post for a reason. They wouldn’t give up someone that good for a player that they don’t really need.

@ Dustin: I think Gomez + young pitcher would be fair, or Span for mid-level prospect. Span + one of their good young starters may indeed be pushing it.

And, as Rob mentioned already, Alonso isn’t eligible to be traded just yet, nor can I imagine a team being eager to trade someone that they just drafted a few months ago with the 7th overall pick.

Matt LaPorta probably isn’t going anywhere. I don’t see why they would deal him less than a year after trading C.C. Sabathia.

I also doubt that the Twins part ways with Span/Gomez + [Insert Young Pitcher]. That’s far too much for them to be giving up for a Rent-A-Beltre. I see that as too much for them to realistically give up. If anything, I want Span.

Jon and I have talked about the idea of bringing in Yonder Alonso, and I love love love that idea.

We could get LaPorta in return for Beltre, sure. What is realistic?

LaPorta and a mid-level prospect (maybe) for Beltre, but that may be pushing it. The Indians don’t need Beltre as much as the rest of the teams mentioned, so Seattle wouldn’t have much leverage and probably couldn’t get their top prospect.

Twins still seem like the best option, though they will probably try and acquire Garrett Atkins first before giving up a premium for Beltre.

What kind of deals would you think we would have to send/would get along with Laporta? Do you think it’s at all realistic either? I’ve been a fan of LaPorta for a while.

@ ernier: Yes, Baker’s Cuddyer idea yesterday was a bit ridiculous, if you ask me. Cuddyer is the weakest of their four outfielders.

If it’s a deal with the Twins it must include either Span or Gomez. Not Cuddyer as Baker suggests on his blog today, if we had to take Cuddyer then it would need to also include one of the Twins top young pitchers. It’seems like the Twins would be motivated to do this because, I think, Beltre will be at least a type B and possibly a type A free agent.

It looks as if the Twins are the team to trade to especially since their GM has made bad trades in the past and now the meetings are in Vegas. (jk) But it still looks like the team to trade to.

^^Definately, I really like Baker but I’m not sure if they’d give him up. Perkins, Blackburn, Slowey, Humber anyone else I’m missing?
