Winter Meetings: Day 2 Recap/Reaction

The rumor mill was slow on Tuesday, but here are some things we know:
- The top suitors for J.J. Putz at this point appear to be the Detroit Tigers, St. Louis Cardinals and Milwaukee Brewers. The New York Mets may still have Putz on their radar as well, despite the signing of Francisco Rodriguez. The Indians were thought to be interested for a little while, but they landed Kerry Wood. If Putz is dealt to the Tigers, it appears that Seattle would want OF Matt Joyce, 1B/3B Jeff Larish and another prospect in return, which would make a very solid haul.
- M’s GM Jack Zduriencik and Brewers GM Doug Melvin seperately discussed Putz and 1B Prince Fielder. Melvin announced that there wasn’t really a match in the Fielder negotiations. I would read that as “Zduriencik wouldn’t make Felix or Morrow available.”
- Raul Ibanez’s most likely destinations at this point appear to be the New York Mets, Philadelphia Phillies and Atlanta Braves. Of those three, Raul needs to pick the Phillies in order to secure Seattle the best possible draft picks.
Not much else going on beyond those nuggets. Hopefully the hot stove will be burning a bit hotter tomorrow. That said, Zduriencik seems to be keeping pretty tight-lipped, and Seattle’s beat writers aren’t the greatest investigators, although Geoff Baker’s been picking up the pace a bit.
Dustin will be roping in rumors tomorrow morning as I’ll be tied up until about noon-ish and Rob, a Las Vegas resident, will be snooping around the Bellagio.
