Rosters Expand Tomorrow

Sunday, August 31st, 2008

Larry LaRue of the News Tribune is reporting that 2B Luis Valbuena and lefty starter/reliever Justin Thomas will be joining the club tomorrow as the first September callups, and will be joined shortly after by starter Brandon Morrow, relievers Mark Lowe and Jared Wells, and catcher Rob Johnson.
There is a consensus that third baseman Matt Tuiasosopo will be brought [...]

Beltre: Brilliant or Busch League?

Sunday, August 31st, 2008

Saturday’s game wasn’t televised, so I’m not sure how many of you followed it.  Either way, there was a very interesting play in the 10th inning that had a major impact on the game.
The video of this play can be viewed at this link.
It’s the top of the 10th inning.  Seattle is up 3-2 and [...]

Jharmidy DeJesus Photos and Video

Sunday, August 31st, 2008

I decided to make the trip up to Everett to watch the Aquasox play on Saturday night.  There were four players I was interested in seeing: 3B Jharmidy DeJesus, OF Dennis Raben, and to a lesser extent SP Nolan Gallagher and OF Tyson Gillies.  Unfortunately, of those four only DeJesus and Gillies started.
I was already [...]

Should Seattle Sign Fields?

Saturday, August 30th, 2008

As far as 2008 first rounders go, Pedro Alvarez and Eric Hosmer have been getting most of the attention for their conflicts with the Pirates and Royals, but Seattle has problems as well as their first rounder remains unsigned with the organization and agent Scott Boras butting heads over the dollar figure, according to the Seattle P-I’s John [...]

I’m Glad I’m Not Alone

Friday, August 29th, 2008

From USS Mariner’s latest post:
At the same time, I have to admit that I’ve been a little at a loss for ideas for things to write about. Until the season ends and the rumor mill for GM candidates cranks up, there’s not a lot for us to do but watch the season wind down. Even [...]

Nice to Have a Closer Again

Friday, August 29th, 2008

As much as I think that MLB closers are misused and overpaid, it is nice to have JJ Putz healthy and back to his old self in the 9th inning.  He hasn’t regained the pinpoint control he had last season, but his 1-2-3 save in Cleveland tonight was certainly nice to see, especially since it [...]

Scraps: JJ, Morrow, Tui, Bedard, Cora

Wednesday, August 27th, 2008

Seattle P-I: JJ Putz was upset after not being brought in for the save in Tuesday night’s game.
Prospect Insider: Brandon Morrow’s latest start wasn’t as successful as it could have been, but he is still on track.  Sidebar: Top prospects Greg Halman and Adam Moore, as well as Joe Woerman, Gabby Hernandez, Justin Thomas and [...]

Morrow’s First MLB Start Announced

September 5 against the Yankees.  John Hickey has the scoop.

Strasburg Could Drop From #1

Tuesday, August 26th, 2008

A lot is being made about this “race for Stephen Strasburg,” but does Seattle really have to have the worst record in all of baseball to get him?  Having the first pick in next summer’s draft would certainly help their chances at obtaining him, but perhaps they could make due with the second or even [...]

Yuni’s Worn Out His Welcome

Tuesday, August 26th, 2008

In the year 2000 our Seattle Mariners didn’t worry about their shortstop’s performance.  Alex Rodriguez held down the position from both sides of the ball.  Defensively he was easily a top five defender and offensively he hit .316 with 41 homers while walking 100 times.  2000 was his last season in Seattle colors as he left via [...]
