Blalock Rumor

Friday, October 31st, 2008

MLB.com’s T.R. Sullivan:
The Rangers are also expected to talk to teams about infielder Hank Blalock. The Giants and the Mariners have shown some interest in him.
It’s very vague, but that’s what the rumor mill is all about.
Blalock has been a Mariner killer in the past and is a great power hitter from the left side [...]

Is J.J. Hardy an Option?

Thursday, October 30th, 2008

With Jack Zduriencik coming over from Milwaukee to become the Mariners’ GM, just about every current and former Brewer is going to be connected to Seattle by someone.  It can get ridiculous at times, but there is obviously a reason for it.
All GMs bring in their “own guys” when changing organizations.  Obviously it occurs in [...]

Phillies World Series Champs

Wednesday, October 29th, 2008

A weird World Series comes to an end as Brad Lidge continues his save streak.  Just about everyone I’ve come across were rooting for the Rays to take this one and I was too.  I don’t like the Phillies, but I sure am happy for Jaime Moyer.  A big congrats goes out to our old [...]

Benny Looper Leaves

Wednesday, October 29th, 2008

VP of Player Personnel Benny Looper has left the Seattle Mariners organization after a couple decades of service.  Depending on what report you read, he either quit on his own accord or was offered a demotion and decided to seek employment elsewhere.
A lot of people expected Looper to be fired before someone like Bob Fontaine, [...]

M’s Interested in Jacobs?

Wednesday, October 29th, 2008

The South Florida Sun-Sentinel offered up this little blurb in regards to Florida Marlins first baseman Mike Jacobs yesterday:
While the Marlins and Royals have had serious talks regarding Jacobs, a source that had been briefed on their progress described them as “not close” to fruition. The Mariners and Blue Jays are believed to have expressed [...]

Blengino/McNamara Official; Engle Stays

Tuesday, October 28th, 2008

As expected, GM Jack Zduriencik has hired Tony Blengino and Tom McNamara over from the Brewers.  Also, Bob Engle and Lee Pelekoudas will remain with the Mariners.
Blengino and Engle are going to get most of the spotlight here.  Blengino is a SABR member and will hopefully help Seattle progress as a franchise.  Engle has been arguably [...]

Fontaine Gets the Hook

Tuesday, October 28th, 2008

New GM Jack Zduriencik has begun building his front office by relieving popular VP of Scouting Bob Fontaine of his duties.
Fontaine stepped in before the 2004 season and has helped revamp a farm system that was sorely lacking talent.  Since he’s stepped in Fontaine has brought in a ton of talented youths that Seattle Mariner [...]

Rigglemen New Nationals Bench Coach

Friday, October 24th, 2008

Cross Jim Rigglemen off the list as being a potential manager of the Mariners next year. Rigglemen has signed on to be the Nationals bench coach. Jack Z obviously has already told Rigglemen he is not interested in him for manager. During the press conference Jack Z hinted that he didn’t want a 1st time manager [...]

Zduriencik Press Conference

Friday, October 24th, 2008

I was able to catch a couple minutes of Jack Zduriencik’s press conference, but will have to watch the rest later as I’m about to run out the door.  Overall I think it’s encouraging.  He acknowledged the value of sabermetrics and talked of how they were used in Milwaukee.  I’m not sure how influenced he [...]

World Series Thread

Wednesday, October 22nd, 2008

World Series starts in a few minutues, talk about it here.
I’m thinking the Rays in six.  Anyone else wanna make a prediction?
