Macklemore on Niehaus

by ~ Thursday, December 23rd, 2010

I’m not a huge rap/hip-hop fan but Seattle native Macklemore is one of the few that I do listen to from time to time.  I thought he produced a great tribute to the late Dave Niehaus with this track. Here is what Macklemore had to say about the track on his site:

Trader Jack

by ~ Tuesday, December 21st, 2010

Jack Zduriencik has spent a long time establishing a reputation as one of the premier talent evaluators in baseball.  Immediately before coming to the Seattle Mariners he was a very good scouting director for the Milwaukee Brewers, good enough to become the first non-general manager to win Baseball America’s executive of the year award.  But [...]

Rob Johnson Traded to Padres

by ~ Tuesday, December 21st, 2010

Rob Johnson, who was designated for assignment to make room for Jack Cust on the 40-man roster, has been traded to the San Diego Padres for a player to be named later or cash.  I had hoped that a larger trade might be in the works but the Mariners have run out of time and [...]

Trade Aardsma, Sign Gregg?

by ~ Tuesday, December 21st, 2010

It makes a lot of sense for the Seattle Mariners to trade David Aardsma who, thanks to a flawed arbitration system, is about to see his salary rise to a level that will cause the more intelligent teams to cease viewing him as a great bargain (which isn’t to say he’s a bad value).  Meanwhile, [...]

On Felix and breakups

by ~ Wednesday, December 15th, 2010

Over lunch today I decided to read Larry Stone’s thought-provoking article on the possibility of listening to trade offers for Felix Hernandez. It was not an enjoyable experience. No more than two paragraphs in did a dull ache grow in my gut. This wasn’t a nervous ache, or true physical nausea, just a dull ominous [...]

Who’s Next To Be Voted Off The Island?

by ~ Monday, December 13th, 2010

We were expecting a 40-man roster move to be made today following the signing of Jack Cust, but we were not expecting Rob Johnson to be the guy cut.  He was designated for assignment earlier today, and given his popularity with pitchers and what we’ve heard in the past about how other teams covet him [...]

The Roster After The Meetings

by ~ Monday, December 13th, 2010

When last we looked at the Mariners’ roster, the Winter Meetings had only just begun.  The M’s have since engaged in several transactions, and seem likely to partake in a few more. With Rob Johnson being designated for assignment, Jack Cust has now officially been added to the 40-man roster, and with one more move [...]

Mariners Acquire Brendan Ryan

by ~ Sunday, December 12th, 2010

As first reported by the team’s official Twitter feed, the Mariners have acquired infielder Brendan Ryan from the St. Louis Cardinals.  In exchange, the Mariners are sending RHP Maikel Cleto.
