This isn't much of a surprise, but Justin Smoak was optioned to Tacoma after another poor performance at the plate Monday night. While there has been no corresponding roster move announced, the Mariners do need to activate Mike Carp for tomorrow's game (he's out of options) and Smoak always figured to be the casualty. There was a chance that Ichiro's trade might have saved Smoak, but apparently he'll now head to Tacoma to try and get his career back on track.

Smoak is hitting just .189/.253/.320 on the season.
