We're now less than twenty-four hours from the trade deadline and, the Ichiro deal notwithstanding, the M's have been surprisingly quiet thus far. I was away from the computer all weekend so I'm just now catching up on the trade rumors from the past couple of days. If you're in the same boat, these are the main notes from the weekend:
First, Dave reports that an insider within the game told him that the Mariners are pushing for San Francisco's Brandon Belt. Dave goes on to speculate that whether the M's land Belt or not, they will likely add a similar type of hitter to their lineup by tomorrow night.
ESPN's Jerry Crasnick says that Brandon League's time with the Mariners is just about over. There's a lot of speculation that the Giants are showing a particularly strong interest, although given how tight lipped both front offices usually are, I'm not sure who would have leaked the rumor.
ESPN and Prospect Insider author Jason Churchill heard that the Vargas-Orioles deal is probably off the table.
Ben Nicholson-Smith of MLB Trade Rumors suggested that the Yankees might be interested in Chone Figgins.

The Mariners keep moving up in the ESPN power rankings.
We'll keep you posted on any additional rumors.
