Wow, I liked this offseason a whole bunch. I thought it was the best offseason the Mariners have had in years. This is the year the Mariners get to find out which one of the young guys are really Major Leaguers, next year they can fill in the holes they have once they know what there weaknesses really are. I see a 0.500 season as a distinct possability this year.

The Unit trade worked out great for the M’s: The Chief, Guillen, and Halama. That’s more serviceable players than most teams get when trading a player like Randy. I think you’re knocking the M’s current 3B-men too hard (except for Figgy of course). Seager and Liddi showed some flashes last year, who knows how they’ll turn out. I think it’s a stretch to call them a “sorry bunch” at this point.

Just wanted to add that Erasmo Ramirez isn’t competing for a lef-handed bullpen spot. He’s a RHP, unless the M’s signed another Erasmo Ramirez and I some how missed that this Winter.

I did- my criteria was the NRI guys plus the players on the 40 man who haven’t appeared in a big league game. Iwakuma technically falls under the latter category (hence the ‘dopey parameters’ comment in the post.
